Building and sustaining effective networks is proving to be one of the most promising strategies of the 21st century. When individuals are able to work across organizational, geographic and sectoral boundaries, they are able to accomplish much more than they could working alone.
June Holley, a pioneer and 25 year veteran, in the applications of network strategies, is coming to the Twin Cities and will share stories, tools and tips on building, nurturing and maintaining effective networks to facilitate the achievement of community and organizational goals. In St. Paul, she will offer a session for leaders or those individuals who find themselves aware of networks and interested in applying new knowledge to use their networks to get things done.
In her new book, Network Weaver Handbook: A Guide to Transformational Networks, she outlines a number of skills and competencies:
- identifying and assessing existing informal or formal networks;
- explaining the benefits of a network approach;
- increasing trust in networks;
- supporting innovation in networks;
- convening people together with similar interests to develop collaborative projects;
- developing network strategies.
We will have the opportunity to learn and practice these vital skills together.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1) How much does the workshop cost?
The event is free, thanks to our local sponsors the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation and Keyhubs.
2) Is parking or public transportation available?
Yes. Amherst H Wilder Foundation has a free parking ramp. It is also on a busline and has bike racks too!
3) Are there other related events in the Twin Cities?
Yes.
(1) There will be an Introduction to Networks: Weaving People, Ideas and Projects event that will precede the Network Leadership workshop on August 30 and be held from 12:00 - 1:00pm at the Wilder Foundation in St. Paul.
(2) The Network Leadership: The Role of a Network Weaver is also being held from 1:30 - 4:30pm on Wednesday, August 29 at the Sabathani Community Center in Minneapolis. The content is the same for the two Network Leadership workshops and the only difference is the attendees.
Check Eventbrite for more details and other public events with June Holley during her time in the Twin Cities. Contact June directly if you want to schedule time with her while she is in town.
4) Do I have to take the Introduction to Networks workshop if I want to sign up for the Network Leaders session?
No.
The workshops are designed to work as stand alone session. The focus is just different. The introduction is an overview of the concepts. The network leadership is more for leaders who want to apply the concepts.
5) Where can I get a copy of the Network Weaver Handbook: A Guide to Transformational Networks? It will be available for purchase at the workshop events in Minneapolis and St. Paul. You can purchase it in advance at www.networkweaver.com (recommended - having a copy in advance will augment your experience of these workshops). Allow 5 - 8 business days for delivery via USPS.
6) Are there other ways I can learn about this work in advance? June has a number of other ways she shares information.
Network Weaving Facebook: httpwww.facebook.com/groups/339757846085496/
Network Weaving Twitter: networkweaving
7) Are there ways I can be involved in ongoing learning opportunities?
Ongoing learning opportunities will be shared at the August workshop events. You can also come, network with others and start something that works for you.
8) Is there a deadline for registering?
We are encouraging people to reserve their tickets before Monday, August 20.
9) Do you still have questions?
Feel free to contact the event organizer, Kristin Johnstad at kristinjohnstad11@gmail.com or 612-386-6296. I will get back to you as quickly as I can.
